The Island Club at North Captiva. (2022, October 31). North Captiva. https://northcaptiva.com/
Following Hurricane Ian in September of 2022, the island sustained significant damage which included mild to severe devastation to buildings, structures, and homes. Additionally, there were masses of uprooted trees and debris scattered everywhere. The island’s infrastructure, including water and power lines, also sustained damage; however, FEMA and the island community have been working tirelessly to make repairs and assist the island to return to its former beautiful beach community.
After returning from a relaxing vacation in late June of 2023, I can attest to the magnitude of cleanup that has already been completed. It was saddening to see some piles of debris in front of homes that have yet to be attended to, but also heartwarming to see many FEMA workers continually removing piles and clearing debris and barging it off the island. The island is in a constant state of transition but that didn’t detract or prevent me from enjoying the tropical paradise that was all around.

We had easy access access to all the beaches and amenities with the zippy golf cart that comes with the house. I highly recommend watching sunrises on the east beach by the airstrip, and closing out the day watching the sunset on the other side of the island- park your cart at one of the beach access spots on the gulf lane for unforgettable evenings. Spend the time in between at the Safety Harbor pool, grab a beach read at the clubhouse, or go kayaking! I come to North Captiva every year/every other year, so I feel like a bit of an expert. The toughest part of traveling to the island is planning your food, so be sure to think through meals and pack a lot of extra snacks.
